Bikinis, tan lines, and… wrinkles. Shorts, flip flops, and… a sunburn. Summertime is full of fun, but it’s also sunshine-filled which can cause problems for the body’s largest organ – the skin.
Skin care is not a new concept, but it is an important one! What’s more is it’s quite simple, you don’t have to make a grand to-do list to get your skin care in order. We’ve got easy skin care tips to help you maintain your shine.
Easy Skin Care Tips
Easy, we’re all supposed to be drinking lots of water anyway per the Doctor’s orders. The truth of the matter is skin is healthier and happier when it’s hydrated, and though hydrating on the outside is important, it’s even more imperative to hydrate from the inside out!
Want to moisturize more effectively than ever before? After drinking tons of water, the 2nd best way to moisturize is with oils rich in fatty acids. Coconut, avocado, and even almond oils will leave your skin delightfully moisturized.
Decrease Sun Exposure Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the sun’s rays are at their strongest during the hours of 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. If you do intend to frolic in the sunshine during those hours, no problem, just make sure you cover up with sunscreen. Go the extra mile and wear lightweight layers, if it isn’t too hot out that is.
You Knew It Was Coming – Use SPF!
The smell of sunscreen is the smell of happiness! It means warm weather and sunshine! Who doesn’t love the experience of popping open the sunscreen and slathering it all over while inhaling those nostalgic fumes of beach days and picnics? Whether that’s your experience or not, the point is it’s important to protect your skin from the sun’s UV rays with sunscreen. Even on cold or cloudy days, UV rays still beam down. Carry sunscreen in your purse or put a tube in your car. If you use a daily moisturizer, choose one with SPF.
We often forget about our lips in our skin care regimen, but they are exposed to the sun frequently! All you need to do to protect your lips is to use a chapstick with SPF.
Studies show that one of the easiest ways to agitate the skin is through feeling stressed. Taking measures to de-stress and increase personal satisfaction will not only increase your happiness, but it will also help keep your skin clear and bright.
Use Products That Work For Your Skin
There’s an abundance of skin care products available. It can be overwhelming to sort through them to try to figure out which ones suit your skin best, right? Well, we asked Lana Lebrecque, the spa manager at The Essex, Vermont’s Culinary Resort & Spa, which products she recommends to use during the summertime.
This is what she advised:
“We currently have two wonderful products at the Spa from Cosmedix that have SPF. We have Peptide-Rich Defense, which is a great moisturizer and SPF in one. We also have Reflect, which is an SPF, that you can apply over your makeup without causing it to smudge.”
“Another item to add would be the Mirabella CC Cream! I’m the kind of girl that’s always on the go, and have a bad habit of not using SPF like I should! Mirabella’s CC Cream offers SPF 20 protection, while also soothing and hydrating the skin and providing light, everyday coverage. I also have oily skin and this product contains witch hazel which helps balance oil throughout the day! Gluten free, paraben free, and dye free too!”
Whether you’re going to be poolside at The Essex, or plan on strolling around the neighborhood, execute these skin care tips and you’ll be protected, nourished, and flaunting flawless skin in no time!
